azz:
Hrm. Suddenly I lose a bit of respect for Donald Knuth...
"To change all these pages will cost me a week's time."
What utter rubbish.
David:
I just love the bit about not wanting to delay the book with the 63 year plan by 1 week
It took me about 15 minutes research to discover that the Doctype he is using refers to something which is, IIRC "HTML 2.0 with some proprietry extensions from Netscape"
... and that included the time to extract the DTD from CVS and get one of his pages to validate.
About 5 minutes more and I could have written a Perl script to modify the Doctypes on all his pages (with sensible error handling (not assuming that the Doctype is OK for all pages to start with))
The penultimate paragraph is so nice. Its so tempting to come up with something along the lines of "Oi, you arrogent &^%$. The validator is a free service maintained and run almost entirely by volunteers. Be nice."
