This isn't quite correct -- Linux is licensed under the GPL version 2 only, without the "or, at your option, any later version" clause that most GPL users have.

Hrm, I think I'll avoid wandering around the lab asking to see researchers' socks. But the idea's interesting.
Obviously its only prestigious in the summer, when they can be displayed with shorts and sandals
