QotD: 'WordPress is, according to its web site, "a state-of-the-art semantic personal publishing platform with a focus on aesthetics, web standards, and usability." In other words, it is yet another weblog platform written in PHP.'
The article is about the backdooring of WordPress. If you want a read it without buying a subscription then you can ask me for one of my guest passes for the article (or wait a week).
(I find LWN sufficiently useful to fork out the ~ten quid a year they ask for a subscription)
ats: "JISC is required to switch funding to areas in which take-up of ICT has yet to become established, and which would benefit more directly from national investment. JISC has therefore decided to cease funding for its Mirror Service which means that the service will close on the 31st July 2007."
Note that this is the JISC mirror service, not The Mirror Service.
(The latter is the one I'm involved with, that had the JISC contract up until 2004 and has since been running on department funds and scavenged hardware.)
Suffice it to say that we weren't terribly impressed with this announcement...
In particular, our stats figures suggest that our mirrors have only got more popular in the last few years.
