David:
"The Open Source Specialist Group (OSSG) will be holding an interactive event on Tuesday 24th July 2007 over a proposal to create a British Computer Society (BCS) Open Source Licence."
Oh dear
BCS: Please don't create another FOSS license, the world has enough already
I'm not sure if this is about creating a new license which has BCS in the name to promote the BCS, or if it is about creating a license for software produced by the BCS (I don't even know if the BCS published software for that matter).
If it is the former then this is a cheap stunt, that isn't likely to have much success and will just create Yet Another Near Identical License to choose from.
If the latter, then please please please - just adopt an existing license. Its doubtful you'll be able to come up with anything new anyway.
ats:
Given that the BCS members' magazine this month is all about how great DRM is, I'm not best impressed with them at the moment.
David:
...
I don't have anything to say to that
(except sarcastic comments about DRM in general)
Hmm, I see that the meeting is being held about 15 minutes walk from my office. Do I devote an evening to laughing at the people on stage?
ats:
I think that was pretty much ORG's plan already.
