The LA Times reports on an attack on a civilian convoy in Afghanistan last year.
What struck me as interesting were lines in the radio transcript saying things like "Do we know where friendlies are? [...] Yeah, see if you can find that out in mIRC"
I was thinking that that was a confusing name for a military communication system...
... but it turns out that no, they really do mean mIRC.
"Chat use soon overcame capacity and a second IRC server was installed in Fifth Fleet supporting approximately 500 concurrent users [...] Chat use grew drastically during OIF and two more IRC servers installed, bringing the totals to four servers supporting approximately 2500-3000 concurrent users in 350-400 chat channels"
